What We Believe

We are a part of the National Association of Free Will Baptists. Specifically in the Tidewater Association of Virginia.

Our purpose is to fulfill the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20

  1. See souls saved
  2. See them baptized
  3. Teach them how the Bible says they should live
  • God — God is the Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of the universe. He has revealed Himself to mankind through the Bible in three distinct persons, called the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus — Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah who came to this world born of a virgin and lived a perfect and sinless life. He willingly laid down His life in order to atone for the sins of all mankind. He was buried and three days later rose from the grave. He now is our Advocate with the Father interceding on behalf of all who place their trust in Him for salvation. Jesus is the only way of salvation. One day He will return to take His church to Heaven to live forever with Him in paradise.
  • Holy Spirit — The Scriptures teach that all the attributes of God the Father are in the Holy Spirit. He is the Comforter that lives within every believer from the moment of salvation. It is the Holy Spirit which convicts of sin, gives understanding of the Scriptures, and empowers men to live according to the Word of God.
  • Depravity — Man was originally created in the image of God and sinless. However, he made a free will choice to disobey God’s clear command and fell into a sinful state that has been passed down to every human ever born.
  • Salvation — Salvation is the free gift of God offered to all people. Salvation comes only by faith in Jesus Christ alone. No one can earn their way to Heaven, only faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ can save a person. Every person can be saved. Once a person can understand that he is a sinner in need of a Savior and places his truth in Christ he can be saved.
  • Election — God chose from the beginning of time to save all who would place their faith and trust in the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ for salvation. God’s desire is that all men would be saved.
  • Security — Every believer in Christ can have full assurance of salvation. Believers are saved and kept by faith alone. Sin cannot cause a person to lose his salvation, only a renouncing of his faith in Christ. However, this is a very unlikely scenario.
  • Sin — Sin is an affront to a holy God. It is anything that is done contrary to the nature and holiness of God. All men are born sinners in need of a Savior.
  • Bible — The Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God in its entirety. It God’s guidebook for His people. It contains the complete revelation of God that He has chosen to reveal to us. God used over 40 human authors and their unique personalities to record His Word to mankind. The Bible is the guidebook that all Christians must live by. In it is everything God has revealed about Himself to man.
  • Church Ordinances — There are three ordinances that are taught in the Scriptures: 1) Baptism which should be administered only to believers, 2) The Lord’s Supper (Communion) which is open to all believers present, and 3) Feet Washing.
  • Marriage — Marriage is a sacred institution created and established by God for one man and one woman.
